Campbell Weekends

In December of each year the four children of Ray and Reta Campbell gather with their partners for a mystery weekend organised by each in turn. This tradition started in 1997 to share the inheritance left by Olive Campbell, aunt to the four siblings.

1997 We gathered at Jenny & Alans Paekakariki house and picnicked at Eastbourne (Somes Is was closed!). Dinner was at a restaurant in Raumati
1998 Raewyn & Neil hosted us at a homestay cottage South of Featherston. Jet boating on the Ruamahanga was the highlight
1999 Isabel and Ian took us on walk to edge of the Tararua forest park. We stayed in a cabin and tent with spa bath in the bush.
2000 Margaret arranged accomodation at the old Church road monastery with a trip to Cape Kidnappers gannet colony on Saturday
2001 Jenny and Alan took us to a butterfly farm in Paraparaumu and then on a four wheel drive expedition to the seal colony past Red Rocks on Wellingtons South coast
2002 Raewyn & Neil had us white water rafting down the Tongariro! in spite of Margaret swearing she would never get in a raft again. We stayed at the Groombridge house in Poukawa
2003 Isabel & Ian took us on a tour of Awarua and then a night in Greytown. Sunday saw us visit Ostrich Blue farm followed by lunch at the Gladstone vineyard and then a visit to the Reynolds homes at Mayfield and Burnbrae.
2004 Margaret arranged accomodation in the Maryknoll B&B on Church road. We went on a lunch cruise around the harbour and Marine Parade followed by a tour of the Church Road Winery (formerly Tom McDonalds)
2005 Jennifer took us on an overnight trip to Kapiti Island. We stayed with the Barret family in a lodge at the Northern end.
2006 Raewyn and Neil organised a jet boat trip down the Wanganui with a side trip into the Bridge To Nowhere. We tested the guest arrangements in their new house at Omori.
2007 The tenth year we have been getting together before Christmas. Isabel & Ian organised a visit to Greg Laing (wheelwright), Rewanui and a night at Castlpoint motel. Jenny made the cake
2008 Margaret organised a weekend at Waikaremoana accomapnied by her friends Ross and Ngaire Duncan with their boat
2009 Jennifer arranged a steam train trip from their house at Paekakariki to Eketahuna and back with side trip to Pukaha and Middleton railway
